Gender and Powersharing

Dr. Allison McCulloch and have launched a research project titled Gender, peace and powersharing practices in political transitions, funded by a SSHRC Insight Grant (2014-20)

Drawing on new fieldwork interviews and research, we are developing a model of gender-inclusive powersharing that brings together lessons of ethnopolitical powersharing from archetypal cases like Northern Ireland and Bosnia-Herzegovina with new policies around the 'women, peace, and security' (WPS) agenda.

We hope to contribute new thinking to powersharing design and practice in states experiencing conflict and political transition today, such as Afghanistan and Syria. As part of the project, we will be organizing two thematic workshops. Please do get in touch with me directly if you are interested in participating in the discussion. Graduate students and practitioners are also welcome to participate.

CODEPINK ALERT!

I’m also principal investigator for a project titled CodePink Alert! Transnational Feminist Peace Activism in the Post 9/11 Period, funded by a SSHRC Insight Development Grant.

I have been interviewing feminist anti-war activists in Canada, the US, Palestine/Israel and Northern Ireland about their experiences organizing for peace. As part of this project, I’m completing a manuscript that charts the emergence, growth, and demise of feminist cross-community activism. It is tentatively titled Feminist Solidarity in Conflict: Identity Politics and the (Re)Making of Women’s Peace Coalitions in the Northern Ireland and Israeli-Palestinian Conflicts.
